International and European Cooperation Division

The mission of the Division is to develop and maintain effective dialogue and cooperation with the agency’s external partners, with the aim to support and facilitate the implementation of the agency’s mandate across all areas of its work, contributing to the broader EU policy framework, including the external action policy of the Union.

The main tasks of the Division are:

  • Establish, strengthen and maintain institutional relations with the competent authorities of Member States, EU institutions, bodies, offices and agencies, international organisations, and relevant authorities of third countries, forging effective partnerships across various areas of the agency’s mandate, and in support of effective implementation of the European integrated border management;
  • Lead and support the agency’s efforts of consolidating and promoting the standards of the European integrated border management in third countries, and strengthening resilience of third country border management and return authorities through targeted technical assistance and capacity building interventions;
  • Ensure coherence of the agency’s engagement with and support to its international and European partners, in close cooperation with the relevant internal and external stakeholders;
  • Ensure the agency can rely on a network of Frontex Liaison Officers, effectively contributing to its operational goals within and outside of the EU, and is equipped to welcome the liaison officers deployed by the Member States and other external partners in a reciprocal manner.
