Frontex is currently finalising its report on the “Green Deal and the European Border and Coast Guard”. The research study aims to promote environmental sustainability as an integral part of Frontex and the EBCG operations, processes, and infrastructure.
The ongoing study points towards opportunities and challenges of incorporating sustainability into the activities of the European Border and Coast Guard community (EBCG). It looks at ways to minimise the environmental impact of vehicle-use in Frontex operations and how to promote the idea of circular economy in the agency’s activities.
While planning to implement sustainability aspects, it is essential to consider not only the operational impacts of vehicle and vessel use on the environment, but also all related supply chain impacts of equipment, uniforms, tools, and any other products used by border and coast guard officers.
