    Frontex reinforces support to Spain as summer crossings peak at the Strait of Gibraltar

    Frontex has deployed border officers to three southern Spanish ports to help manage one of Europe’s largest seasonal movements of people, as millions of travellers cross the Strait of Gibraltar between Spain and Morocco over the summer months. The deployment supports Spain’s Policía Nacional at BCP Algeciras, BCP Tarifa and Ceuta seaport as part of the annual operation known as Minerva.

    Frontex: Irregular border crossings into the EU down 40% in the first five months of 2026

    The number of irregular border crossings into the European Union continued to fall in the first five months of 2026, with detections down by almost 40% compared with the same period last year. Nearly 39 000 crossings were recorded, according to preliminary data collected by Frontex. The decline reflects sustained cooperation with partner countries and preventive measures in key departure states, which continue to reduce the number of boats setting out towards Europe.

    Frontex Hosts 23rd Management Board Working Group on European Integrated Border Management Meeting in Warsaw

    On 21 May 2026, Frontex hosted the 23rd meeting of the European Integrated Border Management Working Group (EIBM WG) in Warsaw, gathering high-level representatives from ministries and border guard authorities of Member States and Schengen Associated Countries, the European Commission and Frontex. The participants met to engage in strategic discussions particularly relevant at the point when the current multiannual strategic policy cycle for European Integrated Border Management (EIBM) is undergoing evaluation.
