Invitation to Frontex Online Industry Day: border checks and migration management equipment - interoperability solutions

2022-12-15

Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, is inviting companies offering solutions in the area of border checks to enhance the interoperability among different devices and systems.

The Frontex I-Days allow industry representatives to share the latest portfolio of products and solutions with the agency and Member States through live virtual meetings.

The virtual Industry Day will take place online on 17 January 2023.

We are looking for technological software solutions to ensure the highest level of interoperability between devices deployed for border checks with different national border control systems. This would help increase the number of border checks devices at specific border crossing points in case of emerging needs and overcoming technological compatibility issues.

Border checks operations and migration management imply the use of various equipment (incl. document readers and equipment to capture biometric data) and the exchange of data with national and international systems. Equipment acquired at national level is operable with the national systems, but often support is needed for integration of additional equipment (e.g. provided by Frontex or an equipment not initially envisaged).

We are particularly interested in solutions which are able to:

  • support the interface of national systems for border checks with multiple types of biometric devices from different manufacturers (e.g. fingerprint scanner, facial image capture camera)
  • support the interface with other border check equipment in addition to biometric devices (e.g. document inspection system such as document reader)
  • support flexible and smooth integration with national/international systems for border checks and migration management (e.g. EURODAC, EES, …)
  • ensure compliance with existing national and international standards (e.g. BioAPI ISO/IEC 19784-1) Technology Readiness Level - TRL 9

If your company is interested in showcasing a technological solution at the Frontex Industry Day, please register here no later than 10 January 2023.

You should provide a brief description of your company and the technological solution you wish to present supported by presentation material such as brochures, technical documentation and demonstration videos. Each company will be offered 30 minutes for a presentation, including Q&A and open discussions.

Submissions will undergo an assessment process, which will evaluate the solution’s innovative potential for the EBCG community and the selected domain. A maximum of eight selected companies will be given 30 minutes for a live presentation, including a Q&A session.

Frontex assists the EU Member States in supporting the development of modern technologies for the border and coast guard community. As part of its mandate, Frontex regularly meets with industry, researchers, and experts from the Member States to provide a platform for discussion and help develop new technologies and innovations related to border control. There Industry Days allow for a transparent procedure of consultations with industry representatives. Frontex regularly informs about such meetings on its website.

The agency has developed a Transparency Register to ensure that the contacts with the industry are as transparent and fair as possible. All meetings and contacts of the Executive Director, Deputy Executive Directors and Heads of Divisions in matters concerning procurement procedures and tenders for services, equipment or outsourced projects and studies are registered in this tool.
