Frontex hosts 8th European Day for Border Guards

2017-06-13

More than 500 border guard officers and other officials from 38 countries took part in the eighth annual European Day for Border Guards (ED4BG) organised in Poland by Frontex on Monday.

This year’s edition of ED4BG was the first since Frontex became the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, gaining a wider set of tools and responsibilities to support member states at EU’s external borders.

The programme included four panels whose topics were related to Frontex’s transformation, including a new way forward for border management, a new approach to European Integrated Border Management, European coast guard functions and border security as part of maintaining internal security within the EU.

“The programme of the European Day for Border Guards reflects our new mandate, which represents an inflection point for Frontex. We have embarked together on a very intense transition, at the end of which we must emerge stronger and more resilient to face our common security and migratory challenges at the external borders,” Frontex Executive Director Fabrice Leggeri told the participants.

ED4BG presents Europe’s border and coast guards’ community with an opportunity to share experiences, best practice and common values. It provides a forum for an exchange of views between key border-management players.
