The event, held under the auspices of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU, brings together representatives from the EU Member States and countries from the EU’s southern neighbourhood. Document fraud at the borders Document fraud at the borders 2018-04-26 With EU Member States reporting thousands of cases of document fraud every year, this crime remains one of the biggest challenges for European border guards. Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, has been active in assisting EU Member States to track down document fraud. Earlier this year it established the Centre of Excellence for Combatting Document Fraud to fulfil the agency’s expanded role in combatting cross border crime. Read more

Migratory flows in March: Fewer arrivals in Italy Migratory flows in March: Fewer arrivals in Italy 2018-04-13 In March, 6 200 irregular border crossings were detected on the four main migratory routes into the EU, down 63% from the same month of last year. In the first quarter of 2018, the total number of irregular border crossings halved to 18 800, mainly because of lower migratory pressure on the Central Mediterranean route. Read more
EU agencies meet on future activities of the European Coast Guard EU agencies meet on future activities of the European Coast Guard 2018-04-12 On 11-12 April 2018, the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA) hosted the first European Annual Coast Guard event, which took place in La Toja, Spain. It was co-organised by Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, the European Fisheries Control Agency and the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), and brought together more than 120 participants including from the Member States’ national authorities responsible for the various coast guard functions and the European Commission.
