Complaints Mechanism

2020-12-04

Complaints Mechanism was established by the Regulation 1624/2016 on the European Border and Coast Guard. It allows anybody directly affected by the actions or failure to act of any staff involved in a Frontex activity to submit a complaint if the person considers himself or herself to have been the subject of a breach of his or her fundamental rights due to those actions or that failure to act, or any party representing such a person.

The Fundamental Rights Officer (FRO) reviews the admissibility of complaints and registers admissible ones. The FRO then forwards all registered complaints to the Executive Director and forwards complaints concerning members of the teams to the person’s home Member State. In addition, the FRO informs the relevant authority or body competent for fundamental rights in a Member State and ensures the follow-up by the Agency or that Member State.”

If you believe that you are directly affected by the actions or failure to act of any staff involved in a Frontex activity, and you consider that one or more of your fundamental rights have been violated due to those actions or failure to act, please read how you can lodge a complaint.
