Workshop on Horizon Border Security projects

2021-05-28

On 20-21 May 2021, Frontex held a workshop to discuss ongoing border security projects organised as part of the EU Horizon framework. The aim of the activity was to familiarise the European Border and Coast Guard (EBCG) community with selected Research and Innovation projects and to provide feedback from an operational perspective.

The event brought together experts from 17 Member States and Schengen Associated Countries and numerous Frontex staff, as well as experts representing industry, academia, NGOs, research centres and end users (e.g. ministries of interior, police directorates, etc.). DG Home, the Joint Research Centre and the Research Executive Agency were also present and actively contributed to the discussions.

As part of the workshop, participants learned about the scope and objectives of newly launched projects (BorderUAS, EFFECTOR, ISOLA, iMARS, ITFLOWS and METICOS)  and also discussed the ongoing activities (ARESIBO, COMPASS2020, ANDROMEDA, BorderSens and D4FLY).

In the months to come, a wide range of trials and demonstrations will be conducted as part of the projects. The European Border and Coast Guard community was invited to participate and is looking forward to support those research and innovation activities with the end user’s perspective and feedback.
