Frontex Research Grants: first deliverables

2024-02-09

As we are halfway through the grant year, it is a perfect moment to check on the progress made by the beneficiaries. They have been busy working on their projects to reach the final objectives by the end of this year. The selected projects focus on four priority areas: the surveillance systems using photonic radars, optical first-line ID checks, methodologies for collecting data from unmanned aircraft systems, and smart energy systems for unmanned marine vehicles.

Grants in a nutshell

In 2023, Frontex grant beneficiaries started their 12 months project co-funded by Frontex under the Research Grants Programme.

The grants are part of a new financing scheme known as the Frontex Research Grants Programme, which provides a total of EUR 240 000 in funding to support technological research that aligns with Frontex’s strategic and technology development priorities.

We are now halfway through the grant year and each project has begun submitting deliverables documenting their ongoing work, according to the review process.

Great projects, great expectations… and great future plans

Four beneficiaries: DMDLBVEC, SEMS4USV, SWEETIDS, and TUTELARY have now submitted their first deliverables. Frontex will keep publishing them on the website in the individual sections dedicated to each project.

Due to the excellent quality of the proposals and the interest shown by the non-profit research community in the Research Grants Program launched in 2022, Frontex is pleased to announce that a new call for proposals will be open in the second half of 2024. The information about the next call will be posted on the Frontex website and social media in the upcoming months.
