Frontex led research study on high-altitude pseudo-satellites

2023-01-09

At the end of November, Frontex Research and Innovation has launched a research study on High-Altitude Pseudo-Satellites (HAPS), carried out under the auspices of the EU Innovation Hub for Internal Security. The Innovation Hub is a cross-sectorial EU platform which ensures collaboration between internal security innovation actors, formed by the EU JHA Agencies, European Commission (DG Home and DG JRC), the Council General Secretariat and the EU Counter Terrorism Coordinator.

The research study aims at exploring if HAPS can indeed be a capability enabler/multiplier and how the internal security community can maximise the opportunities provided by such solutions. It will embed an overview of the HAPS market, a specific assessment on HAPS and a fundamental rights impact assessment.

A final study report that will present the results of the project will be delivered at the end of 2023.

Frontex will regularly publish insights about the progress of this endeavour.
