FOCUS AREA: detection of illegal/hazardous goods, cargo inspection

The project investigates a new all-in-one system for cargo inspection whose purpose is to become simultaneously a user-friendly, flexible, relocatable solution offering high-quality information for:

  • fast high energy 3D X-rays tomography
  • neutron interrogation/photofission
  • narrow gamma ray beam based NRR (nuclear resonance fluorescence).

The main body of the research will be followed by lab validations and real-environment demonstrations.

Foreseeable Outcomes:

  • Development of a disruptive new type of radiation production technique: the laser plasma based source, capable of addressing cargo inspection challenges.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101021866
