FOCUS AREA: forecasting, big data, deep learning, perception analysis

The main objective of ITFLOWS is to deliver accurate predictions of irregular migration flows to the EU based on a wide range of human factors and using multiple sources of information. It will also provide management solutions for different phases of migration processes, including reception, relocation settlement and integration.

These insights will be delivered by a forecasting tool (EUMigraTool) for practitioners, and a set of recommendations, policies and good practices for policy makers.  The back end of the tool will comprise two complementary approaches to forecasting. The first one will be based on an agent-based modelling, while the second will rely on deep learning, which currently is the leading paradigm in the field of artificial intelligence.

Foreseeable Outcomes:

  • accurate models and predictions on migration in the EU
  • IT solution (EUMigraTool) with accepted rate of prediction accuracy to disseminate project insights to the community
  • management solution for accurate comprehension of all migration phases
  • strategies and recommendations to reduce risks of tensions on migrant-EU citizen level by providing an in-depth analysis of drivers and patterns to comprehend migration choices

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 882986
