Meet Melissa from the Federal Police in Austria who works as Frontex Support Officer on the Greek island of Lesvos. Her aim is to ensure the operation is running safely and smoothly. She also cooperates with national authorities. Melissa’s first deployment with Frontex came in October 2015 and ever since she has taken part in 13 missions.
“Since I joined the Austrian police, I have always wanted to work abroad. By taking part in successive Frontex missions, I had a chance to learn new skills and at least a few words in the language of the country I was being deployed to. Whenever I am boarding a plane on my way to the mission, it already feels like a fresh start, a beginning of new life. Once deployed, you need to find a place to live, know your way around, meet new people and learn about their culture. You work with highly-experienced professionals from different countries who are willing to share their knowledge and skills with you. It is just amazing. I would recommend it to anyone.”
