Virginijus from Lithuania is currently helping his Polish colleagues with checking documents of travellers at the Polish land border with Ukraine. They are making sure the document used to cross the border is genuine using advanced technology and available databases. This is his 11th deployment in a Frontex operation.
Virginijus is one of the many Frontex document experts working alongside EU’s land border helping other Member States with their expertise. Their knowledge is increasingly important because of the growing sophistication of criminal groups that resort to document fraud. Document fraud is often an essential element of other criminal activities, such as smuggling of drugs, firearms, stolen vehicles, trafficking in human beings and migrant smuggling.
