Frontex training activities complement national training programmes by offering training support in specific areas based on prior needs assessment. In order to reach as many students as needed, the training activities concentrate on “training multipliers” – trainers who can train other border guards in their country, in their own language. Additionally, Frontex also developed specific training tools, such as English Communication for Border Guards or Schengen Borders Code eLearning Tool.
Thematic Training
Anti-Trafficking in Human Beings
In line with the latest international and EU standards, this training emphasises that the fundamental rights of the trafficked person are at the centre of all efforts addressing trafficking. It is structured around the core functions of the border guards. Frontex supports the implementation of anti-trafficking courses in the Member States and non-EU
countries by training of national trainers.
Schengen Evaluator Training
The main purpose of this course is to train future Schengen Evaluators. National specialists divided into up to 4 on-sites teams responsible for air, land and sea border as well as return evaluation test the Integrated Border Management (IBM) system of the host country and present their opinion.
False Documents Detection
The
basic level course is targeted at officials not directly involved in border
guard tasks, while the training on advanced skills for detection of falsified
documents is designed for first and second line officers. It aims to enhance
knowledge of printing techniques, common terminology and the examination of
questioned documents. Training for visa section staff of EU MS/SAC embassies
and consulates is delivered to raise awareness amongst visa officers of the
latest trends on the design and abuse of secure identity documents.
Risk Analysis Training
This training focuses on providing the knowledge and skills required to make use of the Common Integrated Risk Analysis Model (CIRAM), following the development of the Common
Core Curriculum (CCC) for risk analysis.
National Coordination Center (EUROSUR) Operators Training
This modular training programme aims to harmonise the competences of the NCC operators at European level with the EUROSUR framework.
Return Operations
The
standardised escort leaders’ course is designed for supporting
standards/procedures on joint return flights coordinated by Frontex, as well as
on return flights organised at the national level. Courses for escort teams and
return officers from certain partner countries will be provided in cooperation
with Frontex Return Operations Sector.
Fundamental Rights
Frontex
is committed to raising awareness and respect of fundamental rights in the
daily work of border guards. This is why it facilitates the implementation of
the fundamental rights training on national level by providing expert support
and training of national trainers. Frontex Fundamental Rights Trainers’ manual used for this training has been made available for public consultation.
Schengen Border Code eLearning Tool
Schengen
Borders Code eLearning Tool is a novel way for border guards to learn about EU
law, rules and procedures relevant to border checks. It uses some of the latest
educational technology approaches, namely virtual reality immersive learning,
mobile learning through a responsive interface, game-based learning with
engaging and motivational cues and finally extensive online training. The
Schengen Borders Code eLearning tool can be accessed via this site.
