My name is Jori and I come from the north of Finland.
At home, I work as Command and Control Centre Officer for Finnish Border Guard in Lapland.
Here at Frontex, I am a Support Officer in the International Coordination Centre responsible for the agency’s field activities.
I am taking care of the operation in Albania, gathering, combining and sharing information and intelligence. I make sure that the relevant information reaches the right people. Before joining the ICC, I worked in Frontex field operations myself, gaining the necessary experience.
Is my work different during the COVID-19 pandemic?
I work at an office, following all sanitary instructions and guidelines. Coming from Finland, social distancing comes naturally for me and meetings via videoconferences have become the norm.
It’s way more challenging for those working in the field. I salute those who are battling against COVID on multiple frontlines - healthcare workers, but also border guards and police officers who keep us safe.
These days, we need to create a safe environment not only for ourselves and our families, but for all the people around us. We need to think as a community and this requires a change of the mind-set.
