Meet Diego, one of the first recruits to the Frontex standing corps from Italy.
“I joined because I want to fight organised crime, which doesn’t know borders.
“I am very impressed with the spirit of comradery during and after the recruitment process, even though we were competing for the same posts. I’ll always remember how during physical tests everyone was cheering for others, no matter which country or institutions they came from. And it hasn’t changed since we started the online training.
“Remote learning because of COVID restrictions was a bit awkward at the beginning as one would expect to meet his class in person on the first day. But we quickly started to chat and get to know each other online. We now regularly discuss the things we’ve learned during the course, exchange views and experience.
“A colleague from Portugal has already promised that when we finally meet he is going to make us a delicious feijoada (traditional bean stew) for dinner, while I volunteered to prepare a dessert - tiramisu. We can’t wait to meet everyone in person!”
