Antti is a Finnish border guard working for Frontex at the land border between Albania and Greece. He is part of the first group of Frontex officers deployed outside the European Union. His main task is to support his Albanian colleagues with the detection of forged documents.
“My name is Antti and I am a Finnish border guard. I normally work at the border between Finland and Russia.
Here, I will help my Albanian colleagues detect forged documents, as well as victims of human trafficking. While 99.9% of people crossing the borders are travelers with genuine travel documents, it is the job of border guards to identify and stop that very small percentage of those who try to cross the border using fake passports.
To keep our borders safe, we always have to be one step ahead of the criminals who forge travel documents. So, it’s important for us to always be up to date with the latest technology.
If we detect a victim of human trafficking, we have to protect them, make sure they are safe and that police can collect enough information to prosecute those who traffic them. I’m especially worried about children who could fall victim to exploitation."
