The Analytics Sectors was established to expand the Risk Analysis Unit’s data and geo analysis capabilities and to sustain the high quality level of knowledge delivered and managed by it. The sector consists of two teams supporting the Strategic and Operational Sectors in their ad-hoc and bespoke exploitation of data and intelligence (Data Team) and through the provision and development of geospatial services (GIS Team).
The risk analysis approach to analytics is human-centric. People are behind the collected data, are analysing it, and are taking decisions based on it. The recognition of patterns in the data, the improvement of the analysts’ experience via analytics, as well as the integration of the geographical context to the gained knowledge are aimed at supporting decision makers in the understanding of their critical business decision. Analytics supports in identifying the additional pieces of information that help managers improve the quality of their decisions.
The coordination of the Data Management cycle carried out by the Data Team aims at facilitating the introduction into the intelligence cycle of the processes, policies and solutions to govern, protect, maintain and use of existing and new Risk Analysis-managed datasets. This Data Management cycle also includes developments in the areas of data discovery, data integration and aggregation as well as data insight (extraction of value and knowledge based on advanced analytics).
The GIS Team is responsible for the implementation of collaborative interface enabling the embedding of GIS Analytical Service Areas for the user-level management of statistical and operational geo-data.
The provision of geospatial intelligence through tailored products and services goes significantly beyond the usual imagery used for its elaboration and requires a thorough understanding of the complexity of the operational environment and the delivery of innovative geospatial solutions tailored to the analysts’ needs.
