Risk Analysis Unit

The Frontex Risk Analysis (RAU) is responsible for providing solid evidence to support decisions in all areas covered by European integrated border management, especially border control, return, irregular secondary movements of third-country nationals within the Union, prevention of cross-border crime including the facilitation of unauthorised border crossings, trafficking in human beings, terrorism and threats of a hybrid nature, as well as about the situation in source and transit third countries.

The Risk Analysis Unit is responsible for delivering timely, accurate, and relevant assessments, intelligence products and integrated data services. The Unit’s products and services provide an early warning mechanism that helps Member States to monitor migratory flows towards and within the European Union, as well as trends and other potential security challenges at the external borders of the EU.

The Risk Analysis Unit maintains the methodologies and the (data) tools that are applied for risk analysis by the Agency and the Member States, such as the Common Integrated Risk Analysis Model (CIRAM) and its links to the Common Vulnerability Assessment Methodology (CVAM), the Third Country Intelligence Methodology, risk analysis networks with Member States and other partners, intelligence gathering activities, including the collection of relevant and necessary personal data.
