The Unit is responsible for:
- Facilitating overall cooperation between Member States, third countries and other relevant international stakeholders in the area of return;
- Developing and contributing to the implementation of EU readmission agreements and arrangements, operational standards, best practices and harmonised procedures;
- Providing support to the Member States on cooperation with third countries for the identification of third-country nationals and the acquisition of travel documents;
- Developing capacity building activities in support of Member States and third countries in the field of return and reintegration, including in the form of technical assistance projects, where relevant;
- Operational management of the Return Liaison Officers;
- Developing, coordinating and managing operational activities in the area of pre-return in support of Member States;
- Supporting the operational deployment of relevant return-related standing corps profiles;
- Developing training content in the field of pre-return, also in response to Member States’ specific needs;
- Developing and updating the reference model for national return case management systems (RECAMAS).
